Rise Up Against Fascism: Southern California Demonstrations on Presidents’ Day

This Monday, February 17th, activists, community members, and defenders of democracy will take to the streets across Southern California to stand against the growing threats of authoritarianism, bigotry, and oppression. On Presidents’ Day—a day meant to honor leadership and democracy—there is a call for action to defend the very principles that this country was built on.

 

Here are just a few demonstrations happening across Southern California:

Here are some tips if your planning to join peaceful demonstrations this Monday, February 17rh.

 

📵 Phone Safety:  

– Disable Face ID & fingerprint unlock (use a passcode instead).  

– Turn off location services or use airplane mode when necessary.  

– Use encrypted messaging apps like Signal for communication.  

 

😷 Mask Up & Protect Your Identity:  

– Wear a mask to protect against surveillance.  

– Avoid wearing identifiable clothing or anything with personal logos.  

– Consider covering tattoos and distinct features.  

 

👟 Dress for Safety & Comfort: 

– Wear non-distinct, comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes.  

– Bring goggles or shatterproof glasses to protect your eyes.  

– Avoid carrying anything that could be considered a weapon.  

 

💦 Stay Hydrated & Prepared: 

– Bring water 

– Pack snacks and basic first aid supplies.  

– Carry cash instead of cards to avoid digital tracking.  

 

🚨 Know Your Rights & Plan Ahead:  

– Write down emergency contacts on paper (don’t rely on your phone).  

– Know exit routes and have a meetup plan in case of separation.  

– If detained, state: “I am exercising my right to remain silent.”  

 

🛑 Stay Aware & Protect Others: 

– Film interactions with police from a safe distance (but be mindful of privacy).  

– Do not post unblurred photos of protesters online.  

– Stick with a buddy and keep an eye out for each other.  

 

This Presidents’ Day,  reclaim the day as a moment of resistance, a time to demand accountability from those in power and to stand in solidarity with those fighting for justice.
